Here’s what you have in common with everyone else who took this quiz, and with past me too:

We were all raised in a society that teaches us that men and women are different in important ways. 

  • That men can be assumed to be capable, but that women need to work hard to prove themselves. 
  • That men are natural leaders, and women are natural followers. 
  • That men are smart and authoritative, and that women need someone else’s guidance to know how to properly do, well, ANYTHING.
So is it any wonder that if we are socialized as women, we grow up looking outside of ourselves for, well, EVERYTHING?
  • We look outside of ourselves for our self-esteem.
  • We look outside of ourselves for our direction.
  • We look outside of ourselves for help in making decisions in our own lives.

Women are taught that their value is like the stock market. 

It rises and falls based on the consensus opinions of everyone who interacts with them.

And that means that by the time we get to be adults, we’re lost at sea.

We are buffeted by the waves of other people’s ideas, priorities, values and beliefs. Even when we hear a small voice inside of us saying “This is what I want” or “I should speak up” or “I have an idea” — we tend to override it and keep quiet.

We don’t know how to drop anchor and ground into our own priorities, our own authority, and our own power.

But if you want to create the life you want, you NEED to know how to drop that anchor.

The more chaotic the world is — climate, recession, war — the more important it is that you know how to chart your own way and create your own outcomes.

You can’t create the career you truly want when you’re constantly trying to do what your parents, best friend, and first boss told you to do.

You can’t create the relationship of your dreams when you’re constantly second-guessing yourself about your choice of partners, your life plans, and whether you’re even lovable to begin with.

You can’t take the risks that are required to live a big, bold life when you’re constantly berating yourself for making even the smallest possible mistake.

Let me be clear: 

There is zero shame in not knowing how to do this already.

Day 2 – Perfectionism: Learn one simple sentence you can say to yourself any time to soften your self-judgement and survive your imperfect moments. (I use this one almost daily!)

February 29  @ 12 PM – 1 PM ET

Day 3 – People pleasing: Learn a thought hack you can use to tolerate other people’s disapproval, and maintain solid compassion for yourself.

March 1 @ 12 PM – 2 PM ET

Day 4 – The Take Back Your Power Masterclass: In this 90-minute session, you’ll learn the sneaky ways society taught you to doubt yourself and do what you’re told, and why it feels so hard to get over that people-pleasing instinct. You’ll learn how to understand the fear you feel about taking up space or making big moves, and how to work with the fear so it doesn’t hold you back.

HI, I’M KARA LOEWENTHEIL

I’m a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale College and got my J.D. at Harvard Law School (with honors no less). I clerked on a federal appeals court, litigated reproductive rights, and ran a think tank at Columbia Law School before deciding to . . . quit my extremely prestigious law career to become a life coach, of course! Best decision I ever made.

Now I run a seven-figure coaching business created around my signature feminist coaching program, The Feminist Self-Help Society. I teach women how to cure socially-programmed anxiety by changing the way they think about themselves, for good.
