I’m happier in my SELF in every way. [This work] has made the quality of all my relationships so much better. My marriage is better, kids are better, friendships too! I’m no longer kicking my own ass for so long if I fall short of a way I want to think or behave. It’s legitimately changed my life and I tell everyone about it.

What words come to mind when you think of feminism?

Angry?

Principled?

Man-hating?

Radical?

Humorless?

Strong?

Maybe, like me, you have identified as a feminist since you came out of the womb.

Or you might be a little skeptical of the term, and not quite sure you want to stand under its flag.

But either way … “happy” probably isn’t what sprung to mind when we played this little word association game.

And that makes sense …

Feminism as a social justice movement is about righting wrongs, fixing problems, and pushing back against patriarchy and the ways it constrains women’s lives.

But feminism as a philosophy is about women’s equal rights to full human autonomy and equality.

It’s about our right to experience the full range of human experience for ourselves, not just as handmaidens to other people.

And the full range of human experience?

It doesn’t just include dignity, equality, and autonomy.

It also includes pleasure, rest, and HAPPINESS.

I don’t know about you …

But I’m not just fighting for a world in which women have equal pay, equal rights, and equal legal freedom.

I’m dreaming of a world in which women have equal fun, equal delight, and equal emotional and mental freedom too.

That first world is going to take a lot of social and political change, and it’s a long-term project.

But that second world? We can actually experience it NOW.

(Without taking away from the importance of the first one.)

And if you feel kind of … blah?

Tired?

Maybe a little burnt out? Bored? Stuck?

I can guarantee it’s because you need more HAPPINESS in your life.

Both the daily moments of happiness (the pleasure of tasting delicious food, the deep rest of a good nap, the heart-swell of connecting with loved ones) – and the kind of happiness that is about bigger-picture, deep life satisfaction and fulfillment.

(Yes, it’s weird we use the same word for both – but both are part of a life well lived!)

We can’t wait until the outside world is perfect to start reclaiming the happiness, pleasure, and joy that we want all women to be able to experience.

We have to create those experiences for ourselves right now.

But how do we access that joy, that pleasure, that deep, deep rest, in a society that has literally programmed our brains to feel guilty, selfish, and lazy when we do?

Everyone, no matter the challenges in their lives, is capable of experiencing delicious pleasure, restorative rest, and deep joy.

And these things used to come naturally to us. Babies laugh in sheer delight every day.

But society has squashed our natural, universe-given ability to enjoy pleasure, to deeply relax, to embody joy.

It has programmed us to think we are only valuable when we are productive and in service of others, to think we only deserve rest at some mythical time when “everything” is done, to think that pleasure must be earned and that we have never done enough to deserve it.

And it’s programmed us to care more about what other people think than about our own opinions, and to live out society’s blueprint for us instead of forging our own path.

Which means we can end up living lives that look good on the surface, but still feeling unhappy underneath.

Well, I say F*CK THAT NOISE.

I want a world of happy feminists who are not just fighting the patriarchy but also truly luxuriating in their one wild and precious human life.

And that’s what we’re going to do together in The Happy Feminist Challenge.

Kara Loewentheil sitting at a computer.

Here’s how it works:

Each day from June 17th to June 22nd, you’ll receive a short audio lesson delivered to your inbox, and a small challenge action step to help you rewire your brain for more confidence, pleasure, and joy.

Then, we’ll gather together for live coaching calls in the afternoon (replays available) so you can get help with any obstacles coming up in your brain or in your life.

By the end of the week your brain will be different – and you will be too.

 And all for just $37.

(If you can’t afford the registration fee, financial assistance is available! Please email info@redesignyourmind.com and we will help you out. If you can afford it, just know that when you sign up you’re supporting not only your own growth but the accessibility of this work for others who can’t!)

I had a fantastic weekend at a music festival all thanks to thought work. I had my usual unhelpful thoughts like, “I’m not dressed right,” “I don’t fit in,” “I’m not social enough to be here,” “My friend would rather be here with someone else,” etc. But, I didn’t make it a problem! I noticed the thoughts, labeled them as thoughts, and worked to be present in the moment and just enjoy the music, drinks, food and my friend’s company.

FREE BONUS Day 6 (June 22nd):

You’ll be able to attend a coaching call with members of The Feminist Self-Help Society, my coaching membership program, all about pleasure, rest, and joy so you have even more ways to answer your brain when it tries to interfere with your joy.

This bonus call will take place on Zoom at 2 PM ET.

How do you know it’s going to be worth your time?

Glad you asked.

My work was part of a double-blind study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Network Open that showed the kind of thought change work I teach produces significant improvements in burnout, imposter syndrome, self-compassion and flourishing. Even my most skeptical doctor relative who is a tenured epidemiologist at the NIH was impressed. 😉

Pleasure, rest, relaxation, confidence, self-compassion, happiness – these are not impossible goals.

They are not frivolous or unimportant.

They are core to the full human experience.

They are the fuel for a life well and fully lived.

They are the emotions and experiences that fill your cup and enable you to give back to the world in a bigger way.

They are your birthright and they belong to you.

It’s society that has tried to take them away from you.

And it’s time to take them back.

The Happy Feminist Challenge.

You’ve seen your brain on patriarchy.

Now let’s see your brain on happiness.

“I’m ready!”

(If you can’t afford the registration fee, financial assistance is available! Please email info@redesignyourmind.com and we will help you out. If you can afford it, just know that when you sign up you’re supporting not only your own growth but the accessibility of this work for others who can’t!)

This Challenge has changed me. I’m excited to finally learn how to take care of me and not just everyone else.

HI, I’M KARA LOEWENTHEIL

NYT bestselling author of “Take Back Your Brain,” Creator of The School of New Feminist Thought, and Host of the UnF*ck Your Brain podcast (40M downloads and counting).

I’m a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale College and got my J.D. at Harvard Law School (with honors no less). I clerked on a federal appeals court, litigated reproductive rights, and ran a think tank at Columbia Law School before deciding to . . . quit my extremely prestigious law career to become a life coach, of course! Best decision I ever made.

Now I run a seven-figure coaching business created around my signature feminist coaching program, The Feminist Self-Help Society. I teach women how to cure socially-programmed anxiety by changing the way they think about themselves, for good.

My work has been featured in publications like The New York Times and Glamour Magazine and recommended by podcasts as diverse as “We Can Do Hard Things” with Glennon Doyle to “My Favorite Murder.” I pioneered most of the feminist coaching concepts out there, and my work continues to be on the cutting edge of this field. I firmly believe that self-coaching is the next frontier of the feminist revolution.
